Hardy,’ the upcoming
sixth book in the Cadillac
Holland Mysteries series.
I have a seventy-pound pitbull named
Roux as an unofficial partner. He was the
primary murder suspect in the first
homicide I investigated. I was able to
establish that he was only the murder
weapon, but I was still supposed to have
had him euthanized. I chose instead to
change his name and have a trainer work
the homicidal triggers out of him. I figured
that if a Tier One military operative like
myself could learn not to kill people as a
first response to aggression then a dog
could do so as well. I was fighting an uphill
battle to have Roux designated as a K-9
officer with my captain at the State Police.
Captain Hammond’s resistance was based
as much on not liking me personally as it
was on not wanting to have a valuable State
Police K-9 team assigned to NOPD.
